Each year, the Badminton World Federation honours athletes who show great skill, sportsmanship, and dedication to the sport. BWF hosted the Gala Awards night in Hangzhou, China and presented the annual Player of the Year Awards. The winners were:

Each gold medallist at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games was presented with the “Golden Shuttle” award to honour their achievement as Olympic Champions of the sport.
