Sustainability
The BWF
has a leadership role as a world governing body for a global
sport.
Sport and sports organisations have an important status in society and we understand that with this special status, there are important responsibilities. This includes supporting actions now, that take into account the needs and aspirations of future generations.
As a member of the global community of sports organisations, we have a responsibility for implementing sustainable development practices and influencing our community for positive change and a better future.
Badminton – safe, inclusive, accessible
Over the last 20 years, BWF has implemented a wide range of badminton particiaption programmes. Badminton is a safe, inclusive and accessible sport for all.
Inclusion is one of the six BWF values – “Embracing diversity and inclusion demonstrates we are a part of a global badminton community and that our sport remains welcoming and accessible for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds“.
BWF is committed to ensuring a more inclusive, fairer and more sustainble future.
Our Approach
Our approach to sustainability is described in two documents:
1) Sustainability Policy – the high level overarching policy;
2) Sustainability Action Plan – the detailed implementation plan with focus areas, actions and performance measures (KPIs).
The Sustainability Action Plan is currently a work in progress. We are committed to developing a framework for evaluating and measuring impacts of our activities, and formulating and implementing actions that are realistic, proportionate and balanced. We are committed to advocating for change and influencing a positive change to enhance sustainable practices across our global badminton community.
The Sustainability Action Plan is the roadmap for systematically introducing sustainability principles and practices across core areas of our work and reporting on outcomes against targets (KPIs). The Sustainability Action Plan will be considered by the BWF Council at its meeting in Paris in late August 2025 and when complete, the Action Plan will be published, promoted and implemented.
