Practical Information
The elections for BWF Council (2025 – 2029) will take place at the BWF AGM on Saturday 26 April 2025, in Xiamen, China. The following positons are open for the elections:
- President
- Deputy President
- Vice President Para Badminton
- Ordinary Council members (20 positions)
Steps towards the Elections 2025
There are a number phases or steps towards the Council elections.
Phase 1 – Nominations
11 October – 6 December 2024
Member Associations nominate individuals for the elections (Form A – sent to BWF).
A different BWF Member “seconds” the nomination (Seconding Letter – sent to BWF).
Nominees complete two forms: 1) Form B – Nominee’s Profile (sent to the BWF), 2) Form C – Vetting Declaration Form (sent to the Vetting Officer).
Five days after the Closing Date for nominations (6 December 2024), BWF publishes the Nominees List and profile of each nominee.
Phase 2 – Vetting
December – March
Nominees must fulfil certain criteria to be a Candidate in the elections. Vetting is the process to assess Eligibility”.
The Vetting Declaration Form is sent to the Independent Vetting Panel (IVP).
Nominees are vetted by an IVP. The IVP and the Vetting Officer are external and independent from the BWF.
Phase 3 – Candidates
Nominees are declared “Eligible” by the IVP if they meet the Eligibility Criteria (Clause 2.3 – Appendix II, BWF Constitution).
They are then officially Candidates for the election.
Phase 4 – Elections
Elections take place at the AGM on Saturday 26 April 2025.

Election Campaigns
Election campaigns start as soon as the BWF publishes the List of Nominees on 11 December 2024.
Candidates for election must follow the Code of Conduct for Candidates for Elections (linked here).
The Code:
- sets rules on what is reasonable and ethical conduct for those seeking to be elected;
- provides guidance for Candidates themselves as well as for the badminton community on how Candidates should conduct their campaigns and the role of others in such campaigns.
Clauses 5.1 to 5.16 of the Code has the specific provisions and this details what Candidates for elections can and cannot do. Any potential breach of the Code can be referred to a Judicial Process.
Election Processes at the AGM 2025
During the AGM at which elections are held, the order of elections is as follows:
- 1st election – President
- 2nd election – Deputy President
- 3rd election – Vice President Para Badminton
- 4th election – Ordinary Council members
For BWF elections, details on the procedures related to the calculations for Gender and Geographical Representation can be found in Appendix I of the BWF Constitution.
There are fixed allocations detailed in the Constitution.
- Asia: 10 seats (minimum of 3 women and 3 men)
- Europe: 9 seats (minimum of 3 women and 3 men)
- Pan Am: 3 seats (minimum of 1 woman and 1 man)
- Africa: 3 seats (minimum of 1 woman and 1 man)
- Oceania: 2 seats (minimum of 1 woman and 1 man)
The positions of President, Deputy President, Vice Presidents (Continental) and 20 ordinary Council members are included in the calculations for Gender and Geographical Representation. The positions of Vice President Para Badminton / Athlete Representatives) are not included in the calculation.
